The business was created around a simple but effective idea: focused novellas for British Coastal regions.
The debut product is: The Art of Stealing Chips in the Mizzle £12.99 RRP
The company has already secured accounts with a small number of independent gift shops, galleries and visitor destinations, where early sales are very encouraging (best gift shop 30+ books during June).
This is not a traditional book. It has been designed from the ground up as a gift product, complete with a professionally designed countertop display stand to drive impulse purchases. Further book launches will lead to a range with the tagline British Coastal Stories.
Julian Patrick Creative is now actively recruiting experienced independent sales agents to bring this product to further retailers across the UK.

The debut title is perfect for coastal holiday regions in particular (other regions as yet untested).
The initial product combines a distinctly British, humorous and instantly engaging subject with premium production values, giving retailers something genuinely different to offer their customers.

It was an amazing book to read during my summer holidays.
*****
It’s a comedy, a tragedy, a lesson, an indictment.
*****
Designed specifically for the gift market rather than the book trade, this product combines a premium soft-touch novella with a professionally designed countertop display that commands attention in-store. The subject matter is distinctly British, humorous and instantly engaging, and retailers find it easy to recommend while customers find it hard to put down. Early feedback from both retailers and buyers has been extremely encouraging.
Retailers reorder successful titles as stock sells through, and further British coastal stories are already planned for future release. This gives you the ability to revisit existing accounts with new products, grow display space over time, and build a genuinely recurring income stream rather than relying on one-off placements.
The product is likely to perform strongest wherever customers have an emotional connection with Britain’s coastline or are looking for an attractive holiday keepsake. The end customer is typically aged 45 and above, with an affection for the British coast.
Primary target outlets include:
While coastal retail is the immediate priority, agents with strong contacts in other gift-led markets are equally welcome. Julian Patrick Creative values the experience and market knowledge of established agents in identifying new opportunities beyond the obvious outlets.
I am not a salesperson. I wrote a novella, designed a beautiful stand for it, and targeted it at coastal gift shops. The very first gift shop I placed it into (a one minute walk from my home) sold eight books at 12.99 in the first seven days in early June 2026). Did I hit lucky? I very much doubt it. I believe there are many hundreds of busy gift shops, maybe thousands around the UK coast.
You are an experienced independent sales agent with established relationships in the gift trade. Contacts within coastal retail or visitor attractions would be a particular advantage, though strong networks across garden centres, museums or other gift-led markets are equally relevant.
We are currently testing sales in a small number of gift shops local to Penzance in Cornwall ahead of peak summer holiday season (July/August). Our best gift shop is selling 8-12 books per week (during June 2026). This particular gift shop is a good barometer of what is possible. A typical small gift shop is selling 1-3 per week (during June 2026). Obviously, we will have more figures very soon, but have decided to hit the ground running regarding looking for sales agents.
The product makes people smile on first sight, creates natural conversation, and has a countertop display that does much of the work for you. You are not pushing a commodity; you are presenting something retailers and their customers respond to immediately.
As this is a new product to the market, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute your experience, feedback and ideas to help shape its future success and the development of the wider product range.
Crucially, this is not a one-shot listing. Retailers reorder as stock sells through, and further British coastal titles are already in development. That means in the future you can revisit existing accounts with new products, deepen those relationships over time, and build a growing book of repeat business from a single product category.
Julian Patrick Creative is looking for a long-term partnership with the right agent. Your market knowledge and ideas are as valued as your sales ability.
