Pathfinder International is a well-respected magazine aimed primarily at servicemen and women leaving the UK Armed Forces. We give them all the information they need to find employment and successfully transition to civilian life.

We’re looking for a dedicated sales agent with experience in marketing and advertising sales who can sell advertising opportunities to companies which provide services to ex-military personnel. With strong experience of media advertising and marketing you’ll start with the sales leads we provide while you build your own fresh sales portfolio.

The Product

Pathfinder International Magazine, distributed by the Ministry of Defence, is a well-established magazine providing resettlement advice, training, jobs and opportunities for people planning to, or in the process of, leaving the Armed Forces.

Much of the content focusses on retraining, education and employment opportunities. We also run regular features on topics such as business opportunities, housing, relocation, financial advice, schooling and mental wellbeing to name but a few.

As an experienced advertising sales executive, your role will involve selling magazine, website and newsletter advertising opportunities to companies providing the products and services needed by Service Leavers. There are also advertising services for clients to run email marketing campaigns or take advantage of face-to-face opportunities at Forces-related exhibitions, conferences and awards events.

    Pathfinder International Magazine was established in September 1991. Every year since, 12 issues of Pathfinder International Magazine have been distributed in printed format. The Pathfinder International offering has expanded over that time to encompass a digital version of the magaine, website, newsletters, social media channels and media partnerships.

  • Generous commission rates

    A basic flat rate of 20% commission per sale. Sales values average between £1000-£1,500 though sometimes fall below £1000. A bonus is available in addition to commission for a sale value beyond the agreed level of sales. This will be agreed in advance with the agents.

  • Sales leads provided

    Pathfinder International will provide a foundation of sales leads based on our historical data but candidates will be expected to produce their own fresh leads and grow an advertising client portfolio.

  • Ongoing support

    You’ll receive full support and personalised digital media information packs.

The Target Market

Ex-servicemen and women mainly need help finding employment when they leave the Armed Forces. Upon leaving they’re usually given training grants and redundancy funds which can be used to pay for courses with training providers, universities and colleges, making these types of establishments ideal for advertising opportunities.

Forces leavers are also highly skilled and highly sought after in the civilian world, so recruitment advertisers are another significant target market. In addition, they need help in other areas including business advice, financial services and housing and any businesses operating in this field would also be potential clients.

The Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for candidates who:

  • Have extensive advertising sales experience
  • A knowledge of Forces life and an understanding of the civilian transition process is an advantage but not essential
  • Can develop their own ideas for editorial features which are likely to attract the interest of potential advertisers
  • Are highly organised and enthusiastic
  • Hardworking and eager to carve out their own advertising niche in this area
