fcbusiness is the business magazine for the football industry distributed to top executives at all the major football clubs. We’re looking for sales agents to sell advertising opportunities to companies supplying products and services to them.

You’ll need to hit the ground running, taking the leads we provide and turning them into concrete sales, as well as build up a portfolio of fresh clients. While an understanding of the UK football industry is helpful it isn’t essential to the job. What we really want is an agent who knows their way around media sales.

This is the ideal role for an experienced advertising sales agent with a healthy interest in football, looking to work with a well-established publisher.

 

The Product

Launched in 2004, fcbusiness is the business magazine for the UK football industry featuring news, case studies, club profiles, product reviews and many more informative articles offering practical advice around the business of running a football club.

As well as the print edition produced eight times a year, there is a digital magazine, website, digital newsletter and well-established social media channels. Sales agents will promote advertising opportunities as well as come up with feature ideas which will be attractive to potential clients.

    fcbusiness was established in September 2004. Every year since 2005, 8 issues of fcbusiness magazine have been distributed in printed format. The fcbusiness offering has expanded over that time to encompass a digital version of the magaine, website, newsletter, social media channels and media partnerships.

  • Generous commission terms

    A basic flat rate of 20% commission per sale. Typical sales value between £1,000 and £1,500 though some fall below £1,000. Package deals and long-term contracts can be more than £10,000 though this isn’t common. Bonus offered if agreed level of sales exceeded. Bonus to be agreed in advance with agents.

  • Sales leads provided

    fcbusiness will provide a foundation of sales leads based on historical data but candidates will also need to generate fresh leads.

  • Ongoing support

    Digital personalised media information packs provided. fcbusiness will also design and send email campaigns to potential client lists if required

  • Exclusive sales areas

    Exclusivity may be granted based on feature subject and/or industry sector.

  • Freedom & flexibility

    fcbusiness will take a flexible view towards structuring working arrangements with sales agents. Some agents may prefer to operate on a feature-by-feature basis. Other agents may want to focus on a specific industry and only contribute to fcbusiness when this industry is featured within the magazine. Generally, sales agents will be remotely located at a workplace of their choosing.

Target market

Sales agents will be responsible for selling advertising opportunities to any business supplying products and services to football clubs. As micro-communities with wide-ranging needs they require suppliers from a cross section of industries. This can include financial advisers, legal advisers, hospitality advisers, facilities management, facilities suppliers, fan engagement consultants, ground care companies, security services, wealth management experts, educational establishments and so on.

The point is the target market is huge and as an advertising sales agent you’ll need to adapt your sales process to different industries to maximise interest.

The Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for candidates who:

  • Have extensive advertising sales experience
  • Knowledge of the UK football industry is an advantage but not essential – we’d far rather you have great advertising know-how
  • Can develop their own ideas for editorial features that are likely to attract the interest of potential advertisers
  • Are enthusiastic, hardworking and a great self-starter
