Introduction

Lookafteryourdog was formed in 2010 by Steve Dalton-a Police Officer and experienced dog handler, who quickly saw a need for this service to offer an alternative to dog kennels.

The business model is based on a carefully selected boarder (and home) who will look after our customers dogs in their own homes’ day or night. Whether the owner is at work all day, going on holiday or just wants to spoil their dog with attention whilst busy.

The Lookafteryourdog vision is to offer the best boarders and not to compete on every level with those far larger in size.  Trust and top reviews are our targets.  Returning customers our goal and of course, most importantly their dogs, happy to take their holidays at one of our boarders’ homes.

We will achieve this by recruiting the best home dog boarders we can find, by supporting them 24/7 to ensure that they can deliver the best service to the dogs in their care, all via a simple to use website.

We are primarily focussed on dog overnight and Daycare, but will, as we expand look at the home visit market, for cats, reptiles, rabbits etc.

Our customers

We look to attract dog owners who do want to place their pets in kennels and are prepared to pay a premium for the right person they trust to look after their dog.  Lookafteryourdog sits very firmly in the middle competition tier and are neither the cheapest, nor the most expensive.  Small, but not an independent.  Our aspiration is to be a premium, national player in this expanding market.

Our team

Our ideal home dog boarder will be a dog lover, not reliant on dog boarding as a sole income, who can inspire trust in a dog owner who is worried about leaving their dog whilst they are away.

A typical team member may just love dogs or cannot commit to one of their own.  It can be they have lost a dog and cannot face the upset of losing another (this is quite common).  They may want dogs in their lives but want them on their own terms!  They will always have a clean, secure home with outside space for the dog.  They will always make time to take them for walks, play with and fuss them.

Our customers will look for constant attention for their dogs, so this opportunity will only be appropriate for those who are either not working full time, working from home or are never away from the house for more than 2 or 3 hours.

A basic understanding of computers and a simple to navigate website is desirable, but support will always be at hand for those less experienced.

Basic policies and procedures (all provided and explained) alongside a Council mandated licence to be applied for (we will guide people through this) constitute the administration side of being a boarder.

Future opportunities in dog walking and home pet visits (Cats etc.) will be possible as the business develops.  This is a very sociable role and will provide lots of opportunities to meet people and socialise with the dogs when out.

Products

We will provide home dog boarding for the day or night, with the customer’s dog staying in the home of one of our selected home dog boarders.

We will charge a rate of £25 per night with a reduction for just Daycare.  This is more than a kennel but the proposition is far superior to a kennel.

We will grow this service offering to other services and pet care once established.

Target market

Customers who do not want to use a kennel to board their dog and are prepared to pay for a personal service.
